  • Holster from Pistol Wear

I ordered the PT2 holster. It's meant to be worn with active wear, but it looked promising as a way for me to carry under my every day clothing. http://www.pistolwear.com/pt-2-concealment-holster/

I received the holster yesterday and opened it up this morning to check it out. It's a little larger than I thought it would be. The only dimensions given on the web site were for waist measurement. The pouch of this holster is 9.5" wide and 6.5" high. (I'll be picking up the SP101 next week, so haven't had a chance to check fit with the gun. I'll update/continue review later, but you'll see why this preliminary post in a minute.) The info on the Pistol Wear web site states that this holster is meant for "compact semi-autos and small revolvers". We'll see.

The materials are good quality, and a lot of thought has gone into the design. I was a little surprised to see that the fabric on the face is fuzzy, but quickly realized the reason. On the left side is a strap with a large piece of Velcro that can be used to adjust fit. The Velcro is incredibly strong and holds really well. As an added measure of security, there's a band - like a belt loop - that wraps over the strap. This way, even if the Velcro should happen to pull away from the body of the holster, it gets caught under the loop. (Trust me - it's REALLY hard to get the band undone that way!)

There's a horizontal opening on the Velcro side of the strap. I have to admit ignorance as to what this might be for, but I'm sure someone can chime in on this. The fabric on the back of the strap is supposed to wick moisture (sweat) away from the body, to increase comfort during activity. At the opposite end of the strap are three snaps that are used to put the holster on and take it off. Here I have a problem. The top snap, arguably the most important one, does not snap closed securely. In fact, it barely snaps at all. Major fail here, What good is a holster if it's easily ripped away from the body?

I sent an email out to Pistol Wear this morning. As of now, I haven't heard anything back. Depending on customer service, I may or may not decide to return this holster, rather than exchange. I would have expected a more thorough check by quality control before a holster goes out, and I have very little patience these days with having to chase people down to make things right. This is a very personal thing, so your mileage may vary. (This is why I wanted to post a preliminary review.)

On to the carry pouch. There's a semi-rigid piece of removable material that lines the front of the pouch and helps disguise the shape of the gun inside. This was a major reason for my choosing this particular holster. Given the challenges of concealing a weapon on my particular body, with the style of clothing I prefer to wear, my best hope is that any visible bulge may at least not be readily recognizable. (Yes, I'm aware that's not truly concealing. I find cc for women is particularly difficult, and am trying to avoid a very common method women choose - purse carry.) At the back of the pouch are two plastic strips backed with Velcro. These are removed for laundering (as is the front insert), and are meant to keep the pouch from rolling over. Lastly, the pouch has a magnetic snap over the top. It holds particularly well for a magnet, so there's a little more resistance to get the snap open than I expected, but it's not going to impede you from getting to the weapon quickly.

Hope you find this info useful, and will keep you updated on the return/exchange/fit of the revolver issue.

Pictures are huge! Is there a way to make them medium-size? Bigger than inserting a picture from my hard-drive, but not so big as this?

Good news on the customer service front. They're sending a replacement immediately, as well as a pre-paid package to return the defective one. Will post an update next week with the SP101.
