For anyone that's interested, I and two of my colleagues are certified NRA Basic Pistol Instructors, among other things. Just an FYI: the NRA basic pistol course WITH live fire fulfills several requirements in the Tri-State area, including, but not limited to:
1. Putnam County requirement for upgrading to a full carry (the other is a safe bolted to the floor of your residence)
2. It can assist with upgrading to an unrestricted permit in Orange County (it certainly can't hurt, as it demonstrates to the judge a commitment to safety through further education and training)
3. Connecticut requirement for a Non-resident Permit (CT DPS actually checks the course certificate credentials with the NRA database of certified instructors to see if its legit)
and many others...
