Ok I'll bite. What's a first focal plane?

It is basically where the reticle is located in the optical system. A first focal is more precise and always true. When the maganification grows the reticle grows with the maganification.
In the 2nd plane (most scopes on the market) when the magnification grows the reticle stays the same so when you double the magnification you have to account for the difference between
the reticle and the figure and divide that. That is why popular drop line and BDC reticles like nikon bdc, burris dropline, mildots, etc... they are not reliable unless one accounts for the magnification setting that is always very tricky. The 2nd focal plane should work given its time to recalculate but in reality in doesn't work. In other words, if one wants to learn ballistics and adjust correctly one needs a first focal plane. Bench rest shooters are ok with 2nd focal plane because they shoot at the same distances and to do score shooting with fine duplex crosshairs so they never have to quickly adjust like in hunting or tactical conditions.

This document has some very nice pictures...

How much do those scopes normally go for? Why are they such a good deal / Value?

What types of rifles can they be used on?

Would it be fair to say that this is a good investment for future rifles in general?

He is wrong about something. The 1st focal plane doesn't cover more area in high magnification. It is a myth and he should know that.
the reticle grows with the target so wherever you are it covers the same and if you are seeing mils they are always mils.
There is a perception that it covers more but it doesn't and they are totally practical. In fact first focal is the choice of snipers, long range
            hunters and competition champions..
I understand they have to sell the cheaper scopes too but they should make that very clear.

however with the 2nd focal plane a mil in the reticle might not be a mil in the target so this is why they are a PITA.

Do a search. They go on sale from time to time but normally they are $750-$800.

What types of rifles can they be used on?

Any Rifle from 22LR to 50 BMG. They are tactical grade.
Because of the smaller footprint and magnification range they will be ideal for the tipical hunting rifle but also the AR15, AR10, M1A, etc..
But also for target for the average ranges inlcluding 22LR, WMR, and anything similar.

Yes! that is why I am posting the sale.
I think weaver are getting ready to come out with a new model but they do not say.
In any case this is a great investment. These scopes are bomb proof. The glass is amazing. I have a few of the larger ones.
These and the vortex are the best value but this deal here is hard to beat.

              See above in blue...

So, I think Natchez had a sale on these last year and Meke texted me about it in which case I bought two of them lol. I believe the price I paid was about $399-$429 each. They light up two different colors inside and he's not kidding; they are BOMB proof. If you run out of ammo, you can take them off the rifle and beat someone to death with it.

Lol.... too short to be used as a cane.
the $400-$425 overstock is long gone.
My problem is I am an impulse buyer but
The scopes are military grade contruction
And great to save for a future project.

A very decent scope for this price. Simple but very well made.

I've got a Grand Slam with the regular turrets. I haven't used it in a while, but it seems pretty nice.

Chances of these scopes being fakes?

                              Little chance IMO
you have the ebay warranty good seller, sells thousands of scopes.
I think they might take surplus or things that might be discontinued pushed by a new model or reviewed model
but it is easy to tell if it is weaver and japanese and if they say new it is new.
If not satisfied, send it right back.
Ebay works great on this regard
