    Bear canister / canisters

Kids and I are getting ready for an end of September beginning of October backpacking trip and am looking for one or two bear canisters cheap or free ( funds are pretty much shot until the new year) if anyone happens to have one or two taking up space - shoot me a line and maybe we can work something out.

Thanks for the offer but I think theres some spray here already somewhere ... need the canisters because where we are going requires them and my one son actually just got a ticket for that I think ... or a written warning or something.... anyways would like to have one on hand to avoid anything like that just in case.

Depending on where you go a lot of sporting good places will rent out the canisters in bear country for pretty cheap I believe.

If you have an EMS store close by, they rent them.

So the question do you have to have one in your possession or one for every bit of edible food? So much for cutting ounces on your gear just to substitute 5 lbs of canister in your pack. I'll stick to my pistol and extra speed loader and a little bleach sprinkled around, very objection to their noses. More governmental rhetoric and inconvince for the tax payer.
I must say I love beavers.

I always just do a hang and never had an issue - where we are gonna go one is "required" .. normally I would disregard that but my kid just got a ticket for that in the same area ... they don't weigh that much but its still added weight ... when we used them in the past ... everyone carried their own food supplies and one person carried the empty canister - we loaded it with all the food at the end of the day - that was out west where there was a bit more concern .... that and it would suck to lose your food 3 days away from a vehicle. ...

Never had an issue hanging it up a tree by tying a second rope at the pack and pull a different direction so it hangs between trees not directly below a branch. Take a piece of Tupperware and write bear proof container on it, ha ha. Wish I could be more help, just tired of big brother interfering with every aspect of your life.

I've never heard of bear canisters before, but I haven't been "camping" in many years.

I was just reading up on them, and came across this:
                  • Not an urban legend: A bear in the Marcy Dam area of the Adirondacks has figured out how to open a BearVault. Be aware if camping there.

                  Wouldn't surprise me.

                  Colonel Sanders

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

                    Just bring one of these:

Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

                    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

Don't camp at Marcy Dam if you can help it ...... it is the Adirondacks version of a getto.

They rent canisters at The Mountaineer in Keene and at EMS in Lake Placid

Won't be camping there - gonna meet some folks at the Loj they wanted to do Avalanche lake - so depending on how much they slow us down I am guessing we'll be spending night one just past Avalanche somewhere( Haven't been in the Trap Dyke in years ) . Day 2 and 3 are going to be dependent on how they all feel - Algonquin maybe ... whatever they want to do ...
