  • Talk to me about driving truck?

It's not something I'm super thrilled about but its gotta be better then what I'm doing. Not really interested in OTR but more local or a day or 2. Looking into McLane. I do not have my license but I have like 9 years of experience of driving class A on the property at work. It shouldn't take me for then a few weeks to get my license. What do I need to know? Talk to me!!! All I know is I cannot handle another summer where I am!!!! I would rather slam my wiener in a car door then go threw that hell again!!!!
They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!

I can tell you right now you're going to make alot less. Drivers are normally lied to by the employer about what they'll make and benefits and all that crap. They are lied to about how often they'll be home. If you wanna make money, you're going to have to invest money. Buy your own truck and become an owner operator. THEN you'll have what you want from being a driver. You could become a driver for where you work!! I'm sure you've seen what I've touched on above at least a few times. Promises, promises and nothing more to show for it. Become a school bus driver. Better hours and the same pay as a truck driver. $16+ a hour in some places. I should have you talk to my friend Bill. He's a driver and he'll confirm everything I've stated here. He's been driving over 15 years and has yet to be employed by one employer for more than a year because of the empty promises or the business gets bought out etc. It's not a job that holds any security at all and the employers know that and take full advantage of it. They can make you quit by giving you short hauls for no pay. Look into it REALLY good before you even consider it man. If you wanna talk to Bill, I can make that happen. He's now a driver for a concrete company driving a pump truck. He drives the largest pump truck in the Northeast. He also landed in a Union because of it and he has spent the last 3 days down in communist NYC where he gets paid what they get paid down there ..... $147 per hour with guaranteed 2 hours overtime on top of that for being there and he only works 4-6 hours a day and his room is paid for as well as his fuel expenses. Now ...you tell me how much he makes in 3 days?? More then most drivers make in a month would be the answer. Bill drove for McLane as well BTW. He'll tell you ALL about the BS they put their drivers through. You could be on shipping wars if you get a bus and a trailer. Not a bad option either. LOL If you become a driver, I got some CB's here that will serve you well!!

Dude every employer is a scumbag lier!!!!! It's about finding one that's tolerable. Mine is not!!!! I have no employable skills so i just need to find something to get me outta there with what I have for now. Drive I can do. $16 an hour isn't gonna cut it and might as well be minimum wage. I keep hearing the Mclane commercials and it doesn't sound bad. Plus they advertise 60+ a year

That $60,000/yr is if you're willing to be OTR 7 days a week AND you're an owner operator. That's just an examples I'm talking about. If it sounds good .... it isn't. I mean, if you wanna give it a shot that's cool. Maybe you'll like it and pursue it and become an owner/operator, but I'm just warning you ..... what they are claiming is extremely rare and almost non-existent. If the pay doesn't bother you than that's a definite plus. Talk to others that drive and decide if it's for you. Bill had made runs at well over 90mph and 16 hours straight of driving just to make it on time. (NY to Miami FL was one of them)

WM, here's the downside ( if there is an upside )
nobody earns 60k, you might get .25/mile
but then you will sit in a hotel room at your own expense, waiting for a load back
then, say you buy a truck
now, ya gotta try to collect from scumbag Brokers who will try to rip you off at every turn
then, your in Florida, and the truck breaks down
7k later, your back on the road, but the freight is late
and no one wants to pay

Mclane is delivery off the back of the truck. You take product off with a hand truck at convince stores and food places. They say you earn over 60k your 1st year. Nothing about per mile or anything it's a salary job. Plus you stay in company paid hotels etc

You really need to talk to people that have worked there man. It's not a salary job. I've heard the commercials ... the words "up to" are always there. It's not salary. Never was. I'm telling you ... talk to my friend Bill. He'll tell you all you need to know. Only took him how many years to find a driving job that didn't screw him with false promises?? If you really want to drive truck, seriously look into being an owner operator in the near future. I mean ... you can drive for some company to get the experience, but if you think that it's just drive a truck and deliver some potato chips to a 7/11, you're already dreaming. Here's some light reading for you ....

I really don't wanna drive truck. Its just something I can do and thought it would be an easy out from the hole im in! I REALLY do not want long OTR. I would be interested in like dump truck or trailer, cement truck, liquid, heavy equipment/flatbed and towing/recovery. Something that most times i'm home daily. I really would like to do towing and recovery driving the big wreckers but I doubt there is a huge call for people to do that. I just most likely want to be home daily and GTFO of where I am before memorial day!!!!!
