Filled another hole in the collection: Picked up the original Schmidt-Rubin straight pull to anchor my collection....the Model 1889 Infantry Rifle. One of these days I'll get a family picture (M1889, M96/11, M1911, K11 Carbine, and K31).

The Model 1889 Infantry rifle, born on date: 1892!





The bolt is @ 3 feet long. Notice the locking lugs way to the rear, this was a weak point and was rectified by moving the lugs 3" forward to the front of the bolt on the M96/11:





Barrel is fully free-floated, that's a brass bushing at the end of the stock that allows the barrel to float:





Rifling is strong, bore is bright, and the crown is perfect......mainly due to the target crown the Swiss use as well as the muzzle cap that does its job whenever she's not slinging lead:







Got a sling with her too, original issue with the Swiss Cross acceptance stamp:

Oh yeah, the coolest part? High cap removable mags.......124 years ago!

She shoots the old GP90/18 ammo, which was 7.5 x 53.5 and basically unobtainium at this point. I'll need to trim back some 7.5 x 55 and load up some low pressure rounds to see what he can do.

Thanks. She's considered an antique, so anyone that wants one can have it shipped right to their door....no FFL required.

Interestingly, the mag release is also a mag disconnect: pushing it half way up locks in the mag, pushing it all the way up activates the disconnect and allows for single round loading. Can't wait to get her to the range.

As a side note, I just wrote the first check for my daughter's college tuition...this may be the last toy for quite a while.

That is great! Had no idea about the antique thing. Speaking of FFL mine expires in December. I'm think I might not get another just yet. Money is tight and I'm happy with my toys. Not as nice as your toy collection but who's is!?! LOL
