  • guns on homeowners insurance?

I'm prolly swapping out to a new homeowners policy when I move. It will likely be home/auto/umbrella policy.

Anybody here want to talk about firearms on your policy? Do you just declare a dollar amount? Need to list out separately?

Specifically, I'm talking about C&R guns as that makes up the Lions share of what I have.

    Thanks!

I wouldn't even say I had any..i never did on my different homeowners insurance. You know damn well in the "God forbid" scenario, they'll blame you for having them and deny you your claims..(probably not) but i sure as hell wouldn't doubt it and sure as hell didn't have to tell no insurance companies my private right to defend my castles equipment.. But hey thats just lil ole untrusting me.if something were to be stolen, i would have just chalked it up as a loss..or the perp would be dead anyway..but not letting know insurance companies gonna decide, damn 20 somethin years I've had em and never been robbed yet..

What got me thinking about this was a guy that posted up pics of " a part" of his c&r collection. Looked like about 30 rifles. Losing those to fire or theft would be a hefty loss.

Talk to your agent. Different policies have different requirements. If its not carved out as listed property or excluded it would be covered as ordinary property within coverage limits. Also check policy language to see if they pay actual cash value (depreciated value) or replacement cost. This applies to all of your property not just firearms.

Yep. I did today actually. What he said was, if it's a one of a kind or very hard to replace piece, consider a separate policy based on an appraised. For a run of the mill sks or mosin, you can treat it as any other property.

I won't do it! TRUST NO ONE! When it comes to your guns, know which ones you have an audit trail on and which ones you don't. At least two safe and two different locations. I'd rather have them buried and accessible than trust my families safety to law enforcement that is CONTROLLED by the government. Figure out what you want covered by your homeowners policy, mine is $10000 without a rider. Make an inventory list, NBA Grading percentage, serial # and remarks. All kinds of people are getting wrapped around # of rounds down the barrel. It's either new or used, no such thing as slightly, lightly or barely, NEW or USED.
Put it on a flash drive with pictures of all your household items and keep it in the safe. The other safe and location is a crap shoot that you need to decide what to do with or about. My second safe is in a free state (for the time being), separate thumb drive inventory with a fictitious label to boot.
I must say I love beavers.
