what's a fair price for an sks these days?

So looking at an sks for sale at the other place. Like many cheap ladies, it's had some work done. Refinished wood and coated metal. The work doesn't excite me, but doesn't turn me away from a great shootin iron.

I think $550 is a bit high, considering I own 2 already. What say you peeps?

$400 ball park is what I have seen in the last 2 years. Give or take $50. Russians go for $500+.

I know which one you're talking about next door. Considering that these things (in original condition) are only going up in value, that abomination you're looking at has had any collector value destroyed and is only good for a trunk/truck gun. I wouldn't give more than $150 for it (consider that it will not be increasing in value so you'll be lucky to break even if you ever decide to sell it).

I bought 5 from RT @ $200 each. The stocks were well used. AIM Sells the better ones for $300

J&G has the Chinese in stock right now ($300). The one we are talking about has had the wood refinished and all the metal (including the bolt) cerakoted some green color.

I was actually considering the deal because I want the roof rack on my xterra cerakoted as part of the deal. Yes, it would have been a trunk gun and I'm not opposed to owning a Bubba gun. I'd never do that to one, but if the price was right and I could get my roof rack done at the same time, I had some interest.

BTW - it was coated in FDE, not ugly green! However the refinished wood on the stock didn't play well with that color.

I know he does, just thinking about the cost of shipping a roof rack made out of 1" square stock kills the idea though. And if I did go with cerakote, it would require a pretty big oven.

As for that abomination next door it very well could be the ugliest sks I have ever laid eyes on.
