You guys keep talking politics/news/religion as if I want this place to degenerate into a interwebz Peshitta storm. Nothing could be further from the truth or intent. I'm thinking about inviting GUN organizations to the site to attract members who want to talk about GUNs. I'm definitely not going to support people bickering and being disrespectful to one another within these pages. Been there, done that. I'm looking to build more significant, meaningful and usable content about guns. We're in NY. Like it or not, politics, as it relates to gun ownership and usage, is a big part of that and as such would be GTG. People disrespecting other members, arguing with each other, talking religion or politics not directly related to gun ownership in NY has no place here. Geez, you guys should know how I think and what I'm trying to accomplish here by now...

Things never turned sour over at NYF until the beginning of 2013 when the 5 or so from downstate joined and turned everything into a us vs them. They know everything and seem to purposely divide us.They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!

Good points 4ex.... A good idea would maybe be to start a FAQ for all those questions that get asked over and over and over again. We can sticky it in Main section and when a Mod see's those threads they can lock them down and post link to the FAQ.
Also I don't think all those "downstaters" will come here. They signed up at NYF because that's the only place they could find to whine after SAFE ACT so I doubt they will leave.
Lots of nice ideas in here though.
I do challenge everyone that reads this post though to start 1 firearms related thread, it could be asking for help or teaching us something new..... If we can do that and build good firearm content like we do chit chat then I think that would be enough to draw in the type of people we want here.
If Chris agrees for now lets see if we can hold off on politics issue for the moment at least and try to build up the good firearm content, recruit new shooters to shooting and this forum where they will ask lots of good questions and help build more content from there.www.AvidArms.com I'm STIHL out of conditioner!!

Couple thoughts. Once word gets out and membership grows at a faster pace, I don't think there is anyway to avoid the political discourse and questions re: UNSAFE. Let it happen and as others have suggested, allow mods to put the hammer on any nonsense (personal attacks, etc). If you invite the gun orgs (SCOPE, GOA, NRA, 2AF, etc) the politics will follow because that's what they do. Again, just allow it to grow organically.
Other than the politics what else do these orgs bring to the table that we can leverage or link to? NRA has great safety info including Eddie Eagle - can we leverage safety content from different places as a section of its own?
I think 4eX's idea about everyone starting a firearm related thread is a good one and this is where the content focus should be. On the other site I always enjoyed the range reviews/reports that Scotchman used to post. We can get him over here with his content but would be great if members here conducted range reviews as well. I have been considering doing a couple but have not yet dedicated any time to it and unsure of format. We could create general guidelines for reviews and, while not a requirement per se, they would make it easier for people to do them (e.g. firearm category, MSRP, caliber, test to include minimum 3 types of ammo, comparison to another in same category, pics of target results, the good, the bad and the ugly, etc). Could also do detailed DIYs with all the talent on this site - how to build an AR, how to start reloading, step by step tear down and cosmo removal on C&R firearms, long range shooting (alot of this already exists here) Seems anyone with a smartphone or GoPro has a channel on YouTube so we should be able to create something useful here.
Can we get any direct feeds of industry info (SHOT Show, etc) including info on new products? Any other sources of industry info?Ok I can go a couple ways
