to reply with more specificity, Wille, I had to go to my design tables
    :
    For A Roof...
    1. shingles = 3.0 psf
    2. 1 x 4 nailers at 8" o.c. = (1/2)(2 x 4 at 12" o.c.)(1.5) = 1.05 psf
    3. 3 1/2" of batt insulation = (3.5)(0.30) = 1.05 psf
    4. 2 x 4 rafters at 16" o.c. = 1.1 psf

    Total Dead Loads = 3.0 + 1.05 + 1.05 + 1.1 = 6.2 psf

Live Load = 20 psf; may be less depending on roof slope.

    Supports A Ceiling...
    1. All of the above = 6.2 psf
    2. 5/8" gypsum board = 2.8 psf
    3. Lights/Misc. = 1.0 psf

    Total Dead Loads = 6.2 + 2.8 + 1.0 = 10.0 psf

Live Load = 20 psf; may be less depending on roof slope.

now this particular example I had worked on years ago was to design the framing for a cedar shingled roof ..
    sooo ..
anyways, we had about 30 #/sq ft
even if you had a flat roof at 55 #/sq ft, I wouldn't worry

perhaps you should google "roofing snow loads for ny"

yeah, and that 20 psf live load should be able to carry like 4 feet of fresh light powder or a foot to 20 inches of old packed snow.

NDG could you check on the numbers above? Are you sure the batt insulation and 2x4 rafters are about the same?
Also, I've never seen a home framed with 2x4 rafters. Minimum I've used has been 2x8.

          intuitive questions, Russ ...

there are both nailers, and rafters in 2X4 , for a decorative commercial gable for a true Cedar Shake roof
according to my records the batt insulation, and 2X4's weigh about the same in PSF

the Live Load is really what we are talkin' here ... about 20 some PSF residential, pitch dependant, and I believe for WNY, about 55PSF flat roof live load

checked real quick under the hood today, serpentine belt came off the pully system, lower engine compartment still impacted with snow. P/S pump empty, couldn't check for any broken lines with all the snow, still trying to make sense of the smoke as well. my guess the snow got between the belt and pull and came off.
            I'm confused!!!!!

Got my deck mostly cleared of snow today. Because of the drifting, much of it was higher than my 30" snowblower.

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

Snow on my roof was heavy Peshitta, it fell fluffy but sure packed up tight.

Same here. I'm headed out of town for the weekend, so last night I tried to clear off the area most likely to create an ice dam. Hopefully clearing off that section and all the vents will preventake any major problems.

Finally got a new serpentine belt and some time to install it, started up after and the engine was running really rough, chugging while idling, etc. popped distributor cap off and it was dry, sprayed all wires, wire harnesses with WD-40 and no difference until the engine had a noticeable burp or fart and then she was running a smooth as anything. Snow/moisture somewhere it should not have been, belt stayed on and no issues there, plug wires are only 1-1/2-2 years old, go figure!!
