Well, apparently the lake did freeze over again yesterday. I just couldn't tell because visibility was so low. My dead end road is drifting in, and is completely blocked further down where the plow couldn't get through. Back deck is a solid 4 feet of snow.and I can't get out the back door. Looks like more snow blowing is in my future today."I ask, Sir, what is dinner? It is the whole chicken. To pluck the chicken is the best and most effectual way to prepare them."

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!
I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.
I could have been enjoying his nuts.

Took me about an hour to run the snow blower this morning. We had a solid 12-18" plus drifting. Had I had to shovel, my ass would have just stayed in bed. It looks like things are going to start settling down in the next couple hours, so we can start cleaning up/clearing out a bit more vs the quick get it out of the way this morning.
Old enough to know better, still too young to care

I haven't measured, but after walking around in it a bit of say it's at least up to my knee everywhere. So that's a solid 22" with snow still coming down.

it can probably handle 4 feet of "in between" type snow, but since it's probably more of a "dry snow" it can handle many more feet of pile up.
so unless you have some super weird massive drift like I have on my non-functioning hot tub, and it somehow is a more wet and heavy snow you'll be plenty fine. it's not creaking or bowing or anything is it?

The addition seems fine, and doesn't have the most accumulation. It's also easy to reach worth the roof rake. I got almost all the snow off of the addition roof. I got a fair amount of snow off the first floor section of the house, but because of the orientation of the house, there is a decent amount of accumulation further up on the roof. The second story has a hipped roof that is sloped on all sides. The wind was blowing out of the north, so the south slope has a lot of accumulation. The first floor roof ridge runs North/South, and since it's sheltered by the second story section it accumulated a lot along the ridge.
Doesn't mean much without pictures, but that's a description of the situation. At this point I'm guessing ice damming is a bigger concern than the structural integrity. The neighbor's house has the same pitch and lot more snow on the roof. I figure if there are going to be issues my house won't be the first to collapse.

haha, that's good that you'll be able to see the issues develop first on their house! yeah damming will be your bigger issue especially with it being south facing I would think with the sun helping to melt and the cold nights. if the accumulation is mostly up at the ridge, that's better than down at the eave though.

This is why I replaced my 20+ year old shingles with a metal roof. No more snow rakes and no more ice dams. I'm loving it! The snow just slides right off..."I ask, Sir, what is dinner? It is the whole chicken. To pluck the chicken is the best and most effectual way to prepare them."

With the accumulation up at the ridge all my vents are covered. Debating puling out a ladder and clearing off a bit more. I'm not sure when my schedule will allow it though.
Edit: I'm headed out of town for the weekend and we've got rain in the forecast for Saturday. I'm not sure how nervous I should be about that.Last edited by WARFAB; 03-16-2017, 10:54 AM.
