Description (NRA certificate issued): If you just received your NYS pistol license and need a safety refresher or are applying for a CT license and need a practical firearms safety class with the NRA certificate, this is the course for you.
Part 1: Will be conducted in a classroom, students will review firearms safety, proper storage of a firearm and range safety. Part 1 also includes the fundamentals of pistol shooting, loading, unloading and pistol maintenance.
Part 2: Will be conducted on the pistol range, where students from a bench and standing will review shooting positions and perform a qualification. Students review sight alignment, sight picture, stance, breathing, trigger control, follow-through, load, fire, reload and unload a handgun, learn to avoid common pistol shooting errors and clear common pistol malfunctions.
At the end of Part 2, students will perform a shooting qualification, from level 1 basic to level 3 advanced, this is done in accordance to the NRA lesson plans to ensure proper knowledge and safety.
