M855, Why?

    My current MOS is ammo (89a). We use green tip for range qualifications only. Its cheap, that is the only use it currently has in the army. The ban was really just to make stock piling ammo harder for the average income household.

      Heavier. A little more accurate at longer ranges. Since it is cheap and can be bought in bulk, it is good for target shooting, etc.

        Apparently the head of the ATF admitted that this was never about just the M855 round.

        "Any 5.56 round" is "a challenge for officer safety," he said. Jones asked lawmakers to help in a review of a 1986 bill written to protect police from so-called "cop killer" rounds that largely exempted rifle ammo like the 5.56 because it has been used by target shooters, not criminals.
