yea NYC is pretty Peshittaty ROFL. Its a good opportunity and atleast im in. Its decent money which will always go up. Plus once im in, hopefully in a few years I can work into something else.

WM, it doesn't matter what ANYONE else would do or what they think. You are the one that matters. You're the one doing the job. Disregard EVERYTHING (opinion wise) others have to offer. If you are ok with performing the minutia of maintenance, grounds keeping, locker rooms and toilets then getting the opinions of anyone else Is immaterial.

Whatever you decide stand tall, give it your best, and show them why you should be promoted. There's no shame in a hard day's work.

Thanks guys. I'm sure that I could deal with the little bit of bad to be much better in the end. Room for advancement and better quality of life. Plus making around $65k a year in under 2 years I dont think is anything to be ashamed of. Especially since I have a 2 year degree but never used it so basically when applying for a job i'm skill less to them.

The wage is certainly good and only going to go up guaranted 3% every year plus other raises. Also eventual moving up.

Well I just got home. I was like 25 minutes early and they were ready for me so went and interviewed right away. I felt like I did really good and we had good conversation.

The hours are not to bad. Start time about 5am, 5 days a week, 8 hour shifts. Set schedule which I do not have now.
Holiday off which I do not have now.
Choice of overtime instead of mandatory which I do not have now.
Health and 401k about the same as I have now.
Starting pay at grade 5 is about $19 an hour but they said they could probably get be started at a grade 7 which is around 22-23 an hour. So pretty close to what I make now except dependable every week. My pay now is based off incentive and overtime so every week fluctuates. In about 1.5 years i should be up to a grade 13 making low 30's an hour as "Master Janitor" ROFL.

So here is the question!!!! Would you clean the occasional toilet for low $30's an hour and a dependable schedule, holiday off and union shop with guaranteed raises every year etc etc...Or stay where im at not cleaning toilets working mandatory overtime and unhappy with not much room for a pay increase except about a 2% a year?????

Also the new job consists of alot of grounds keeping stuff like snow removal etc which im cool with and kinda like. Yea its mindless and easy but I enjoy kinda being my own boss etc and doing lots of stuff. Not exactly thrilled about the cleaning of locker room and a few toilets here and there but the pay is good with a good company and maybe in a few years I can move up to something else.

Thoughts???? Never thought I wopuld even consider a partial toilet cleaning job. idk I feel weird right now

I'd clean toilets. There's thing out there that are 100x worse. Like the rectal thermometer tester at Johnson and Johnson!

I have family and friends who are..I'm not sure of the official title, but it's pretty much groundskeeper/janitor at public schools.

It's a union job that pays really well.

Job security with benefits is about the most important job feature that you can hope for regardless of what the job entails.

Fingers are crossed for you on this.

Are you serious?? $30 an hour and you're worried about cleaning a Peshittater?? Dude .... at $30 an hour, you could hire an illegal at $2 and sit on your ass while he does the Peshitta work!! 'Tis the Amerikan way don't ya know!?!?!

Most janitor's in schools, whom most are also in a union, make minimum wage or JUST above. I know this for a fact. The reason they do what they do is:

1.) It's money!!!
2.) The benefits are 100% paid for by the school
3.) The hours are set and rarely if ever change
4.) They get a vacation in the summer or work less hours while maintaining the same 40hr pay check

Now .... you're asking about a $30 per hour job of which you might do 1/100th of the toilet cleaning they do at $9 per hour?? It takes less than a minute to clean a toilet. I've cleaned many toilets ..... I'll clean those toilets if you won't!! LOL At $30/hr, I'll use a toothbrush on them!!

Also, I use to do plumbing heating and electrical. Do you happen to think that a toilet is part of the plumbing in a house?? I've changed MANY toilets and replaced many sewage drain pipes ... all at $15/hr when subcontracted! Hell yes I'd be happy to clean toilets all day at $19/hr! Go get 'em man!!!

Don't know who you know, but my buddy down in Westchester was bringing in 60k as a maintenance/janitor 10 years ago at a public school...pretty sure the wage scale has increased since then, and my cousin down on the Island....I won't even go there. It would just piss people off.

But hell yeah, I worked as a plumbers apprentice back in the day, and yeah........Peshitta happens.
