To me, the Las Vegas shooting is interesting from a high level perspective because of how the anti gun groups are treating it. They're not as determined to keep it in the headlines as they are the Parkland shooting, despite the LV shootng probably giving them a better chance to further their narrative. The Parkland shooting has led to a heavy campaign to ban "assault weapons". The LV shooting led to a campaign to ban....... bump stocks??
The whole thing still seems weird to me. But, I might be expecting the antis to show some logic and consistency that they don't possess.NRA Life Member

Random curiosity about what led to the bump stock ban that's going into effect today led me to LV crime scene photos which included these rather interesting "bullet strike" photos.NRA Life Member

That doesn't look like a standard AR round hit, though. It looks like a 50 BMG round (incendiary, probably) I just watched a Demo Ranch video yesterday and they were shooting a piece of AR500 steel, and the first shot, with incendiary tip, left a HUGE black mark on the steel.

I originally looked up the crime scene photos because I remembered a lot of the rifles having bipods. I don't think a bump stock would work on a rifle while using a bipod for support.

The most recent Recoil magazine has an article about the different methods to convert an AR-15 to full auto. It's obviously all just "informational" and interesting to read, but when discussing one conversion method the Las Vegas shooter was mentioned. I'll have to get the exact quote when I get home, but I believe it was just a reference to google search results showing people talking about the Las Vegas shooter regarding full auto conversions.
This is probably just tin-foil hat stuff, but in online discussions there were a lot of people claiming that the video and audio of the LV shooting didn't sound like a a bump stock. Add in the fact that quite a few of his rilfes in the crime scene photos had bipods on them, and I can't help but wonder. The details of the investigation into that shooting haven't been really easy to track down, so it leaves a lot of room for speculation. Did the LV shooter utilize a lightning link type device and the demonization of bump stocks was actually a pointless sideshow? A pointless sideshow or perhaps an intentional play to broaden the legal definition of "machine gun"?
