Any recommendations on good knife makers?

I really like bark river knives as they are SHARP! Just wondering whatever makers you all like?

Oh and I would love to do this sometime.

That looks like an awesome class
Old enough to know better, still too young to care

I've got all the parts to try building a knife, I've just never gotten around to it. It's on my "when I have all the spare time in the world" to do list.

What parts would those be? I've heard of knives being made out of old files before (and saw some youtube videos of it being done). Is this what you're talking about or did you buy a kit of some sort? I'd like to give this a shot one day as well.

My grandfather gave me a pre-made blade, brass guard, brass pommel, and a piece of antler to shape into a handle years ago. Not as hard core as making your own blade from a file, but still a start at making a knife.

That sounds awesome! Now that you mention it, I seem to recall reading about those kits when I was a kid...

I bought a 60 or 70 lb box of old files for 5 or $6 at an auction for a blacksmith buddy of mine out west, and this is what he did for me. Not a bad $6 investment. Knife makers and smith's prefer old files. My buddy hand stitched the sheath as well.
I must say I love beavers.
