I think just taking a gun into the security areas of an airport is a crime? If the people hadn't been charged my guess is we wouldn't be seeing photos of their pistols.
I think some people get stern warning if it's truly accidental. Obviously these two guys are idiots but I don't like that it's a news story simply because it was about pistols accidentally being taken to airport.

Am I short stroking or going to fast?
Whoopsy. I can honestly say that I lost my knife last year going through security, it's always on my pocket and I forgot to take it off. But my EDC, yeah... no. I've forgotten to take it off before for other things, but never the airport. Hopefully these are 2 honest mistakes and the .gov doesn't ruin these guys lives forever.

did you end up on a list? like have you flown since then?
happened to me like 10 years ago, and every time i was in the airport for the next year I was "randomly chosen" for extra scrutiny.
and it was just a crap little swiss army knife in a brand new swiss army briefcase and I didn't even know it came with it

I actually caught it myself when I was in the security line before going through the metal detectors, so I didn't get the full TSA tickle. I went out to a trash can near the front of the line and disposed of it. Lost another one the exact same way last January in Manhattan going into the 9/11 Memorial. Didn't see the metal detectors until it was too late.
yeah, i have lost a couple that way too. couldn't believe there was one in that dang briefcase i didn't know about. they played it off like no big deal, threw it away and sent me on my way. but i definitely ended up on a list after that.
