  • finally making black powder!

I have started the process of making my own black powder! Please stay tuned for pictures of the process on making it and how I did it. I've done a lot of research on the subject and yes it is legal to make your own black powder. You just can't possess more the 50 lbs in a single location without having a atf handling permit for explosives

This topic has me questioning the amount of smokeless powder one can store for personal use. Is there a law in this God forsaken state that limits the amount?

Good point THughes. I was just curious if it's worth getting into reloading. I don't run enough rounds to justify the capital expenditure to load my own so I just buy the few rounds I run through the overpriced retail market.

There was an arrest not that long ago in New York City where I think the guy was charged under fire code violations for the amount of powder he had in his apartment. That's also New York City, and it was in an apartment. So who knows.

                  http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/queens-man-arrested-huge-weapons-stockpile-17-guns-article-1.2527173

A Queens man was busted with a stockpile of guns, ammunition and bullet proof vests inside his one-bedroom apartment, authorities said Wednesday.

Guo Shou, 33, of Rego Park, had 225 pounds of gunpowder, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, bullet-making equipment, assault rifles and several bullet proof vests, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

The arsenal was discovered when officers conducted an administrative pistol licensee review at Shou's home Monday. The officers spotted the gunpowder and some of the ammunition lying in plain sight.]

I can't help buy laugh. I have no idea how big this guy's 1 bedroom apartment was, but I'm guessing all his powder and reloading supplies took up quite a bit of the space.

I'm trying to locate the proper charcoal at this point, lump charcoal will work but not well due to it being made of hard wood. It needs to be pine or any soft wood to be the best.

Can't you make it yourself by placing in metal container and then placing container in fire?
